Actress and filmmaker Olivia Wilde’s joke about the new Taylor Swift romance is not sitting right with Swifties.
Amid dating rumors between Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, a recent post from Harry Styles’ former lover Olivia Wilde has caused chaos as music fans of the Anti-Hero crooner were unimpressed.
Olivia Wilde slammed for ‘criticizing’ Taylor Swift
Movie star Olivia Wilde is feeling the ‘wrath’ of Taylor Swift fans after one of her Instagram stories caused Bad Blood between her and the Swifties. Wilde reshared a tweet on her Instagram that read, “I wish Taylor Swift was in love with a climate scientist.”
The original author of the tweet, TV actress Katja Herbers, explained if Taylor was dating a scientist, she “would join her scientist at an end fossil fuels rally and the world would be saved.” She was referring to the sheer attention the Swift and Travis Kelce frenzy has caused. Interest and viewership of NFL games have skyrocketed since the dating rumors emerged. It’s even said Kelce’s own jersey has sold record numbers. Therefore, if Tay Tay showed up at a climate rally, imagine the positive reaction.
But not all fans felt that way. Both Wilde and Herbers received attention from Taylor fans who came to her defense. They say it is not a ‘singer’s job’ to act on the climate emergency.
Taylor Swift is “so influential”
There is no doubt that Taylor Swift’s fans are one of the most devoted fandoms. So some fans of the Lavender Haze crooner believe Wilde is referring to Taylor’s huge influence. We don’t think there is any Bad Blood between the two celebrities.
One posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Olivia Wilde only reposted it because Taylor Swift is so influential that if she dated a climate activist, she’d save the world by motivating y’all devoted fans and media to take interest in climate change.”
Another fan defended Taylor. They said: “I sense that we’re about to see another major backlash against Taylor Swift because people can’t stand seeing a happy, successful woman living her life. These little jabs are unnecessary when Olivia Wilde herself has been in the spotlight for her own messy love life and scandals.”
A third fan brought back Wilde’s former dating life. They added: “Regardless of intent Olivia Wilde posting that to her Instagram story, pretty much inserting herself into Taylor Swift’s discourse about her dating life is certainly a choice given the h*** she faced for 2 years for her own dating choices.”
